A 1987 batch officer commissioned from the Indian Military Academy Dehradun in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME). The officer has had an exceptionally brilliant academic career. He was awarded the Chancellor’s Gold Medal for all-around best graduating student of the university during his B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering). The General Officer also topped his M.Tech course in Reliability Engineering from IIT Mumbai. He is an alumnus of Higher Defence Management Course and the prestigious National Defence College (NDC).

Lt Gen Vineet Gaur has held various appointments in command and staff, important ones being Commanding Officer, 15 Corps Zone Workshop, Director (Production) in EME Directorate, Brigadier EME in 33 Corps, Deputy Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (PF&M) at Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff, Brigadier Military Secretary (C) at Military Secretary Branch, IHQ of MoD (Army) and Major General Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, HQ Northern Command. The General Officer was also a Maintenance Officer in UNIFIL (Lebanon). His instructional appointments include instructor Cl ‘B’ at Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, Secunderabad and DS at College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. He is presently holding the appointment of Director General Capability Development, Capability Development Directorate, IHQ of MoD (Army) since 26 Dec 2022.

For his excellence in professional services, he has been awarded the GOC-in-C, Northern Command CC in 2008, Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card in 2010 and GOC-in-C ARTRAC Commendation Card in 2012. For his distinguished service, the General Officer has been awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2023 and Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2025.
